Donald Trump, the Trumpet, and The Last Days.

Surah TaHa : “And on the day when the trumpet shall be blown, and We will gather the guilty, blue-eyed, on that day” (Quran 20:102)

وَنَحْشُرُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ زُرْقًا‎
wanaḥšuru l-mujrimīna yawmaʾiḏin zurqan

Before I get into my commentary here,  I want to define the term: Zurqa mentioned in Surah 20:102 of the Quran.  Let’s start off with what it is not….

Zurqa does not mean blind ('aemaa/ أعمى ) nor does it mean blurry eyed (dababi aleaynayn/ ضبابي العينين) or a form of glaucoma (like in modern translations of Quran). In all the classical dictionaries it is the plural form of the color Blue or Blue Eyes (1).  You will find this in the Lisan al Arabia, Lane’s Arabic Dictionary and even in the Hans Wehr Arabic‑English dictionary. The Quran often talks about the destruction of nations. So let’s not act like God is afraid of talking about white folks. We can all get it, if we are unjust, wicked, sinning people. White people are not exempt.

Also mentioned in Surah 20:102 are the Mujrimuns that describes what kind of Blue Eyes (thus not all Zurqa). It says ONLY the guilty (Mujrimun)  Blues Eyes are mentioned in this verse. There is no doubt that all the guilty criminals, polytheists, and sinners (Mujrimun) will be raised up blind as mentioned in Surah 20:124-126 because the word - blind ('aemaa/ أعمى ) is used there. That means Arab and the non Arab, that means Blacks and the whites. If you are an Mujrimun, you will be raised up blind.

However, with that said, the word blind ('aemaa/ أعمى ) is not mentioned in Surah 20:102. The Quran focuses on one group of the Mujrimun, connected to a time period. Who are they? According to Ibn ‘Umar al-Baidawi in his major work and commentary on the Qur'an entitled The Lights of Revelation and the Secrets of Interpretation (Anwar al-Tanzil wa-Asrar al-Ta'wil)', says that the Zurqa or blues is a reference to the Romans, being that was color of the eyes of the Rum (i.e. the Greeks or the Romans), who where most hated by the Arabs, that color was regarded by the Arabs as the worst color for the eyes. Thus Zurqa are the Anglo Saxons nations (aka White people).  Don't get it twisted, the Quran talks about Black people too (i.e. The people of Ad (Cush), Thamud, Egyptians, etc...) It's just white people's turn this time.

The journal Human Genetic report states “The mutations responsible for blue eye color most likely originate from the north-west part of the Black Sea region, where the great agricultural migration of the northern part of Europe took place in the Neolithic periods about 6,000 to 10,000 years ago” (9). Although the reference to the “Guilty” Zurqa or Blued Eyed ones here is significant. However, keep in mind again that Surah 20:102 is not an indictment on all Europeans , but only the Mujrimuns or guilty criminals.

Then Surah 102 also refers to the “alssoori”or The Trumpet being blown.  We know this is metaphorical because God and his angels have no need for material musical instruments. Allah is making a point. There was a discussion in Islamic history regarding the Ahdan/أَذَان  (or the Islamic call to Prayer) which Abd Allah ibn zyad, a sahabi (Companion) of Muhammad (s.a.w.)  was reported to have had a vision about it in his dream, and that the call for prayers was revealed to him by God. He later related this to his companions. Meanwhile, this news reached Muhammad, and he confirmed it.  Hence Muhammad (s.a.w.) chose a freed Habeshan (Ethiopian) slave, who is now the national treasurer of the believers,  by the name of Bilal ibn Rabah al-Habashi, to make the call for prayers because of his stunning voice. Muhammad preferred the call better than the use of bells (as used by the Christians) and horns (as by the Jews) (2) (3) (4) (5). So the real trump is the call to the oneness of God, and prayer which is included in the ahdan.

So based on this tradition (about the ahdan), the Trumpet was an instrument associated with the "people of the book" or Jews and Christians. Besides the polytheist, the Arab Jews and the Byzantines (The Romans) were some of the fiercest enemies of Islam.   If so, then why does the  Quran use Trumpet reference instead of the Islamic call to Prayer, called the Ahdan, on that "day” (yawmaʾiḏin) mentioned in Surah 20:102?

Before we get into that, what day was it speaking of? That day (yawmaʾiḏin) could be the day of judgement or the reaping of the consequences of their actions in this life. Din from the word Dana, meaning "he recompensed, judged, or obeyed" (Lane’s Arabic Lexicon) hence yawmaʾiḏin means day of requital ( a little deeper than judgement day). Because requital means something given in return, compensation, retaliation, or a debt that needs to be paid.  Yes Allah exercises his beneficence towards the whole of humanity, and God-Allah grants a special mercy towards those who accept the truth, and he also dishes out a just  requital to bring the unjust and wicked into perfection, those who do not accept the truth. Their punishment sometimes takes the form of distress and affliction in this life but it will ultimately receive its final shape on the day of judgment. So “the day” mentioned in Surah 20:102 could be judgement day or the end of a nation or people.

So back to the Trump. According to the Bible, God had Moses make two silver Trumpets (Numbers 10:2), but the traditional sacred horn of the ancient Hebrews was the shofar made from a ram's horn. The shofar had been used since Moses' day (Exodus 19:13) to attract the attention of the Israelites, issue a signal, or to prelude an announcement and/or warning from God. However , in Christianity the Trumpet heralds the end of time and the return of Jesus to rule the earth as indicated in the book of Revelations.  Perhaps both meanings are alluded to here by the Quran as a warning to the Jews and Christians, specifically the Zurqa  and those associated with them.

I bring this all up because coincidentally there is a president that has the name Trump and his movement of Trumpism (which seems to be a xenophobic, Islamophobic, and racist movement) here in America and the Brexit movement in Europe with the same intent and Spirit.  I think it has to do with their feelings of their end as a dynasty thus want to “return” to the “good old days”. Let’s make “AMERICA great again” is what they say. Because they understand that they will be a minority by year 2045 due to low birth rates (6).  Hence there is  a sense of urgency in the Anglo-Saxon nation.  Is the “Trump” being blown describing the fall of their Empire? I would say yes and here is why...

Just like human beings, nations too have life-cycles, passing from youth to maturity to old age and death. In Ibn Khaldun's book, (who is the father of modern sociology and economics) the Muqaddimah, he indicates nations have a life-death cycle and that the end of that civilization occurs in three stages:

Phase 1 - The Aggression Stage: The first generation are tough and savage. They were use to privation and wanting. They are brave, rapacious (aggressively greedy)  and predatory. They have a strong sense of group feelings or nationalism (asabiyyah). They are sharp and greatly feared. People submitted to them. They were tough. They were used to lacking in material things.  Which made them particularly aggressive.

Michael Bradley talks about this in his book "Iceman Inheritance : Prehistoric Sources of Western Man's Racism, Sexism and Aggression." Bradley delves back into the Ice Age to find prehistoric sources of the white race's aggression, racism and sexism. Bradley offers a persuasive argument that the white race is more aggressive than other groups. And in tracing the effects of the aggression, Bradley offers an uncomfortable all-too-plausible explanation for the pattern of human history.

We also see evidence of this in 18 century America. The United States of America started in 1776 when it won its independence from Britain. The power paradigm shifted out of Europe into the USA. But they to had to build a nation, they did that by taking the land from Native American Indians and by the beginning of 18th century, chattel slavery became their source of financial capital (which helped to build their empire.) They were all about group feeling and solidarity (amongst other whites) in America.

Phase 2 - Easy Life Stage: The next generation falls into a sedentary life and ease. They didn’t have to work so hard. The Quran talks about this phase in Surah 17:16 where it states:

"And when We wish to destroy a population, We send Our commandment (to obey Allah and be righteous) to the people of it who lead easy lives, but they transgress therein; thus the word proves true against it, so We destroy it with utter destruction."

The 19th century saw large amounts of social change; slavery was abolished, and the First and Second Industrial Revolutions (which also overlap with the 18th and 20th centuries, respectively) led to massive urbanization and much higher levels of productivity, profit and prosperity. European imperialism brought much of South Asia and almost all of Africa under their colonial rule. But instead of one emperor ruling, the white capitalists elite became the ruling class and everyone else fall in line (the middle class and the poor). But they still had some group solidarity but not as much as the first generation from the 18th century. They are concerned about money, ease, wealth,  luxury, and controlling the world's resources.

Phase 3 - The End of a Nation: This 3rd generation is so indulged and soft, it has forgotten about the toughness they had in the first generation. They really don’t understand concept of lack. The 20th century was dominated by a chain of events that heralded significant changes in world history as to redefine the era: flu pandemic, World War I and World War II, nuclear power and space exploration, nationalism and decolonization, the Cold War and post-Cold War conflicts; intergovernmental organizations and cultural homogenization through developments in emerging transportation and communications technology; poverty reduction and world population growth, awareness of environmental degradation, ecological extinction; and the birth of the Digital Revolution.

The 20th Century saw great advances in communication and medical technology that by the late 1980s allowed for near-instantaneous worldwide computer communication and genetic modification of life. But there was a huge population growth from 1 billion people to about 7 billion. And European nations are not growing with the world hence they are very concerned. So you will hear talks of population reduction in Africa and Asia.

Hence reference to the Zurqa or the Bue Eyed ones and “The Trump” mentioned in the Quran could be a warning to European people of their end as a ruling class. The writing is on the wall, the end of Western Dominance in the world and the cessation of Anglo-Saxon cultural imperialism is at hand. Many modern sociologists, like Giovanni Arrighi, identify systematic cycles of accumulation of wealth associated with different hegemonic centers of civilization. These hegemons last for about a century, (Ibn Khaldun says 120 years)  and then collapse(phases 1-3 mentioned above), leading to the emergence of a new hegemon.

Arrighi forecasted the collapse of the latest hegemon (the USA in the post-war period), and the emergence of a new hegemony centered on Asia and led by China. Given that the last few hegemons have been of European origin, this would be a radical shift. The election of Donald Trump is just one among myriad manifest symptoms of a civilization in decline. We may live to see the fulfillment of Arrighi’s predictions of the end of Western hegemony.

Many observers have stated that “Trump” is a wake up call, a final Trumpet to the Black and Brown people here in the West. Because he could not have gotten into office without the will of Allah. What is it Allah is trying to tell us?  It has long been an axiom among certain black writers and thinkers that while whiteness endangers the bodies of black people in the immediate sense, the larger threat is to white people themselves, the shared country, and even the whole world.

When W. E. B. Du Bois claims that slavery was singularly disastrous for modern civilization” or James Baldwin claims that whites “have brought humanity to the edge of oblivion: because they think they are white,” the instinct is to cry exaggeration. But there really is no other way to read the presidency of Donald Trump. The first white president in American history, not the first “American president” but the first white president, is also the most dangerous president—and he is made more dangerous still by the fact that those charged with analyzing him cannot name his essential nature, because they too are implicated in it.  The Bible, in the book of Revelation 18:15, speaks of "The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment. They will weep and mourn."

We are implicated by not separating from  this modern day Babylon by either viewing other minorities as the "other", like immigrants and Mexicans. Exclaiming "They" are taking our  jobs, and government benefits we are paying taxes into.  This is a House Negro point of view.  It has never been "our government" or "our jobs".  It all belongs to them. Yes, we have fought and died for this country, but for the benefit of keeping them in power. Not for the self determination and self reliance for our people. And the capitalist elite are playing us all against each other. They play the poor and  middle class so-called whites against each other and against us. They play the immigrants  against the non-immigrants, they play Blacks against the Mexicans and other immigrants like Asians, Arabs, and Indo-pac.

Hence God-Allah is calling us to reform, get righteous, get some taqwa (God consciousness), to pull our resources together and do for self, seeking only Allah's help (Iyyaka nabudu wa Iyyaka nasteen) - Quran 1:5, so  get ready to come out of Babylon and get ready for her fall. Be ready to inherit this land from the MujrimunsAllah describes his intentions with us in Surah 28:5:

"Yet We desired to be gracious to those that were abased in the land, and to make them leaders, and to make them the inheritors".

To say it another way, and to quote Marcus Garvey “Up, you mighty race, accomplish what you will”. That is my prayer for us. Ameen. As salaamu alaikum.
